Present: Deborah Bowen, Mike Cohen, Denise Ehlen, Amy Margulies, and Sandi Scott-Duex
Absent: George Clokey, Mike Cohen, Nancy Farmer, Michael Flanagan, Gail Fox, Giuliana Miolo, Paula Mohan, Eric Roche, and Wayne Youngquist

1. Approval of Minutes from November 14, 2007 Meeting

No action due to lack of quorum

2. Chancellor’s Search and Screen Committee

Members discussed participation of Academic Staff Assembly members in the Monday December 10, 2007 Chancellor Search and Screen Committee meeting to be held at 8:45 am in Hyer 142. All Assembly members are invited to participate and share feedback.

3. Visit by Ron Singer of System Administration

No updates

4. Non-Instructional Academic Staff Promotions

Members discussed past mechanism(s). Roche and Margulies will continue efforts/dialogue regarding development and implementation of a formal mechanism (perhaps similar to previous methods or mirroring instructional staff promotions process). Assembly also discussed the need to continue investigation of current retitling process. Members recommended the Assembly form ad hoc committee(s) in Spring 2008 to research these issues and present findings/recommendations.

  2. Academic Staff Economic Issues Committee — Cohen, no report
  3. Academic Staff Elections/Balloting — Bowen, will check records from the 2007 election to identify a replacement for Scott-Duex.
  4. Academic Staff Government Relations — Mohan, no report, will meet soon
  5. Academic Staff Organization — Ehlen, continuing efforts to fill vacancies on the Instructional Academic Staff Promotions Committee
  6. Academic Staff Instructional Promotion — Farmer, not present
  7. Academic Staff Professional Development — Ehlen, the Committee met and reviewed the October/November proposals. Recommendations will be forwarded via email for Assembly ratification.
  8. Academic Staff Review — Cohen, no report
  9. Academic Staff Title Appeals — Margulies, no report
  10. Academic Staff Titling Committee — Youngquist, not present
  11. Academic Staff Rewards and Recognition Committee — Flanagan, not present

5. Announcements

Celebration of Scott-Duex Service: Residence Life will host a celebration of Sandi’s service to the campus community. Details will be sent to Assembly members via email. All are invited to attend.

6. Future Agenda Items

Non-instructional Academic Staff Promotions/Retitling: Margulies, Roche, and Ehlen requested the Assembly continue to explore this issue. See agenda item #4 for more details).
