October 28, 2011: UW System issued UW System General Administrative Policy 51 (http://www.wisconsin.edu/fadmin/gapp/gapp51.htm) which applies to University facilities and employees and generally prohibits carrying concealed weapons in University buildings and by employees within the scope of employment (other than law enforcement or peace officers). Department of Administration Secretary Huebsch issued a letter to all state employees announcing state policy for concealed carry by employees of state cabinet agencies. Although the DOA policy differs from GAP 51, DOA officials are aware of the UW System policy and did not intend the general letter to state employee to cause confusion regarding policies applicable to UW buildings and employees.
September 8, 2011: The Board of Regents met on September 8, 2011 and as part of their agenda discussed President Reilly's response to the President's Advisory Committee on the Roles of UW System Administration, the report from the President's Advisory Committee on the Roles of UW System Administration, and UW System Administration 2011-2013 Budget Reduction Plan.
