Academic Staff Assembly

CALL FOR PROPOSALS

THE 2009 ACADEMIC STAFF LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE PLANNING COMMITTEE IS NO LONGER ACCEPTING PROPOSALS.  Please refer to the Agenda for a complete listing of Conference sessions.

To be considered as a session presenter, please complete and submit a 2009 UW System Academic Staff Leadership Conference Presentation Proposal Form.

We need to keep "on the move" but why reinvent the wheel when there is so much we can learn from each other. At this year’s Academic Staff Leadership Conference, we invite you to share the many successful activities, partnerships, and practices taking place at your System institution. We have designed the 2009 program so that we can share our best work with each other in either a long (60 minute) or short (20 minute) session.

If you have a strong or innovative program, activity, practice, or partnership that you’d like to share with other academic staff, please consider submitting a proposal for a long or short session. You can share how you implemented a practice or have a round table discussion of a successful program in a 60-minute session or provide a brief overview of a new idea, description of a best practice or a successful collaboration model in a 20-minute session.

Concurrent sessions will be offered between 1:15 pm and 5:00 pm on Thursday, July 23, 2009 and between 9:15 am and 12:00 pm on Friday, July 24, 2009

The 2009 Academic Staff Leadership Conference theme is "on the move"; sessions will be organized into three distinct tracks:

Personal and Professional Development: Declining budgets, increased student needs, office mergers, and increased availability through technology such as Linkedin, Facebook, Twitter, and blogs, are just a few examples of the increasing demands on our time, talent, and energy. As we respond to these escalating demands, it is important for each of us to work to ensure that we maintain a healthy balance between our personal and professional lives, and that we continue to learn and grow as professionals in our fields. We seek proposals that will relate to a broad range of both instructional and non-instructional academic staff, and will serve as great examples for developing ourselves both personally and professionally.

Collaboration and Outreach: In this track, we hope to attract proposals which will focus on how academic staff members, both instructional and non-instructional, might connect across campuses to work together on similar curriculums, or issues of common interest or concern and not only share strategies, but offer support and advice. In addition, we hope to highlight and attract proposals which demonstrate successful and potential collaborations with non-campus groups and involvement in local communities. We welcome hearing any ideas for better and more effective ways to collaborate, to share resources, and to combine efforts, as well.

Legislative Issues: Sessions will be offered focused on key state and federal legislative issues including, but not limited to, collective bargaining and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Proposals are due by April 22, 2009, and can be submitted as an email attachment to Denise Ehlen, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Academic Staff Assembly Chair, ehlend@uww.edu or by fax to 262-472-5214.
