Tenure-Track or Academic Staff position in Media Arts & Game Development (MAGD)/Electronic Media (Communication Department) Available 2010-2011 Academic Year:

The successful candidate must have academic preparation and demonstrable experience to teach undergraduate interactive media and electronic media courses. Ability to teach in two or more of the following areas is required (Introduction to Media Arts & Game Development, Web Development, Video Production, Flash Development, 3D Modeling, Integration of 3D work in flash and game engines, and Advanced MAGD Production). In addition, candidates may be asked to teach other courses in the MAGD sequence or related Communication courses. These courses could include, new communication technologies, electronic media programming, advanced video production, advanced video editing, corporate and industrial video, media operations and management, and social media optimization, as well as developing and producing engaging narrative/non-narrative content for the web and programming for established media industries. Candidates should be familiar with a variety of digital video, audio and related multimedia technology and software (e.g. Flash, Final Cut Pro, Premiere, Avid, Illustrator, Photoshop, Sound Forge, Reason, Maya, 3DS Max, Motion, After Effects, Dreamweaver, or similar software) for Windows and Macintosh operating systems. Expertise in XHTML, CSS and ActionScript is required. Candidates should also be able to contribute leadership skills toward the enhancement of the College and Department’s new Media Arts & Game Development and electronic media programs. Similarly, candidates should express an interest in cutting-edge educational technology systems and the future of university learning. Professional experience in the broadcast/corporate/multimedia/gaming industry is a plus.

Requirements for positions: Terminal degree in Communication or closely related field is required for a tenure-track appointment. ABDs and individuals with masters degrees will be considered for a non-tenure track appointment. Faculty also teach and direct theses and projects in a growing graduate program. Our department expects research/creative activity to complement its primary teaching mission, and evidence of refereed creative media production and/or quantitative or qualitative scholarly activity is required for tenure. Service to the department, university and community as well as participation in related academic and professional organizations is expected. Faculty at UW-W teach a 4-4 load; academic staff teach a 5-4 load.
