Amy Arntson began teaching at UW-Whitewater in 1982. Her career was multifaceted, writing and teaching a wide-range of classes from watercolor and illustration to computer art, graphic design and multimedia. Throughout her tenure, she held a myriad of positions including interim associate dean, art department chair and head of the graphic design area. She consistently worked with colleagues to keep the graphic design curriculum on the cutting edge of technology.
In addition, Arntson became a well-established artist outside the university. She participated in more than 100 exhibitions during her teaching career, including international exhibits in China, Italy and England, and presented on art, design, and visual perception at conferences in Sweden, Spain, Costa Rica, and Peru.
The Amy Arntson Scholarship was created to support students that combine a commitment to graphic design with a strong interest in more traditional fine arts. The objective is to encourage students with a broad area of interest and ability in the field of art and design, and honor the many fine designers and artists that Arntson worked with throughout her 22-year career at UW-Whitewater.
