Roberta Avonn Fiskum Memorial fiskumScholarship

Roberta A. Fiskum
(1963-1993)

Roberta Avonn Fiskum was a graduate of Elkhorn High School and the Unversity of Wisconsin-Whitewater.  During her time as a graphic design major at UW-Whitewater, Roberta graced the campus with her talent and spirit.  Admired by students and teachers alike, Roberta made her mark on the UW-Whitewater community and the graphic design world.  Her work is published in Graphic Design Basics, a college text that is used nationwide.  In addition to her outstanding work in the Art Department, Roberta extended her talents to the greater campus as she designed and painted the Warhawk on the swimming pool wall.  Her works, and no doubt Roberta herself, have been described as “full of spirit, curiosity, and creativity.”

Bob and Yvonne Fiskum, Roberta’s parents, also contributed greatly to the campus and community.  Bob joined the UW-Whitewater faculty in 1965, coaching track, cross-country, swimming, and soccer until his retirement in 1996.  During his tenure, he also served for a time as the Chairman of the Coaching Committee.  Yvonne also was involved in education, as an adult education instructor at Gateway Technical College for many years.  Yvonne was presented with the Gateway Outstanding Educator of the Year Award and served as President of the Literacy Council of Walworth County.

The Fiskums established the Roberta A. Fiskum Memorial Scholarship in 1993.  Each year the scholarship is awarded to students majoring in art with a graphic design emphasis.
