Edna Grinstead Scholarshipedna grinstead

A bequest from the estate of Edna Grinstead in 2006 provided for the establishment of the Edna Grinstead Art Department Scholarship.  The scholarship supports and encourages students who demonstrate both artistic talent and a commitment to successful academic achievement.  This fund will be used to recruit incoming freshmen who will pursue a major in the Art program, and to recognize consistent achievement for students currently in the program.

Dr. Grinstead served the University as a professor in the UW-Whitewater Business Education Department 1961 to 1981 preparing Business Education teachers to teach shorthand, business communication, and other business subjects.  Known for her quick sense of humor and unique personality, it was also evident through her work that Ms. Grinstead was dedicated to students, life-long learning, and health issues.

For many years after her retirement, Dr. Grinstead audited art classes primarily in painting but also in jewelry making.  It was because of the relationships that Dr. Grinstead built with Art Department faculty and students that she designated part of her estate to foster the training and faculty-student relations that she so enjoyed and deemed important.
