Robert Lee Jennings Endowed Scholarshipjennings

Robert Jennings

Dr. Robert Jennings served as a vocal instructor and choral director for 26 years at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.  He directed the women’s Treble Clef Choir and Cecilian Choral, as well as the UW-Whitewater Repertory Singers (originally known as the WSUW Madrigalians). He also founded the High School Choral Festival and the Treble Clef Choir Festival.

In addition to teaching, Dr. Jennings founded two significant fundraising events during his tenure; community dinner concerts and Jul-Fest Dinners.  These annual events generated many dollars in support of music department programs and scholarships over the span of 19 years.  Dr. Jennings’ strong interest in providing scholarship help for students led him to serve as scholarship chairperson for the UW-Whitewater music department for many years.

In retirement, Dr. Jennings continued the tradition of philanthropy by founding and directing the Whitewater Singers Chamber Choir, which has performed benefits for many worthy causes, raising over $100,000.

Dr. Jennings appeared frequently as a soloist in recital and opera performances.  He remained active throughout the Midwest as a guest soloist, conductor, clinician, and adjudicator at music festivals and contests.  Several editions of Who’s Who in the Midwest include Professor Jennings.  He also served as Vice President of the Wisconsin chapter of the National Association of Teachers in Singing.

Dr. Jennings originally established the Robert Lee Jennings Endowed Scholarship in 1994.  It is to be awarded to students majoring in vocal music education or combined vocal music education and vocal performance.
