Gunvor Stoos Excellence in Journalism

Gunvor Stoos

Gunvor Stoos established the first scholarship program in Communication with a bequest in 1987 that created the Gunvor Stoos Trust Fund.  Mrs. Stoos’ relationship to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater is not known; she did not graduate from the University, but she may have attended in the early 1920s.

Gunvor Stoos was born in Elkhorn, Wisconsin in 1904.  She married Joseph Stoos and the couple lived in Naperville, IL.  During her lifetime, she served as president of the Naperville Women’s Club and was a member of Theta Sigma Phi, an honorary journalism sorority.  Mrs. Stoos developed her love of journalism into a career of editing for both the Wisconsin Agriculture Magazine and Holmstad Happenings.

The Gunvor Stoos Endowed Scholarship in Journalism supports students majoring in the journalism program.
