Theatre/Dance Design Scholarship

Created Anonymously

The Theatre/Dance Design Scholarship became an endowed fund in 2006.  Funded anonymously, this scholarship’s purpose is to encourage students who wish to pursue a career in the design area of theatre, including lights, sets and costumes.

The scholarship is awarded to students displaying outstanding promise in any area of theatre design.  It also recognizes work ethic, the pursuit of excellence, and positive contributions toward the study and production work of the Theatre/Dance Department.

It is somewhat unusual for a theatre program of Whitewater’s size to allow students to design regularly for Mainstage productions.  Yet, for well over 35 years, qualified students have been designing for shows in the Mainstage season, as well as for smaller productions and student-produced work.  It is a testament to the hard-working theatre design students at Whitewater that such is the case.  Only through each design student’s commitment and dedication to growth has this concept of college theatre production been able to develop and flourish.

It is the hope of the creators of this scholarship that it will enhance the design program in a small way and help the Department of Theatre/Dance maintain its philosophy of allowing its students to “learn by doing.”
