The Irvin L. Young Auditorium, The Fern Young Terrace and The Young Auditorium Endowments

Irvin L. and Fern Young

Irvin L. Young established himself as a successful businessman, inventor, engineer, and architect through the use of his talents and strong work ethic.  His close association with the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater community began through his guest lectures and presentations of his extensive African art collection to various art classes.  After having lived from 1929-1932 in Africa, Mr. Young developed a strong commitment and passion for the entire continent.  The creation of the Irvin L. Young Foundation, in 1949, was a direct cause of his commitment as it was designed to support researchers and mission hospitals throughout Africa.  A vast majority of Mr. Young’s earnings were donated generously to the Foundation, which has provided many scholarships for education majors at UW-Whitewater.

Fern Young shared her husband’s energy, generosity, and commitment to the UW-Whitewater community.  Following his death, Mrs. Young provided her services to the UW-Whitewater Foundation Board, the Arts Advisory Board, and the Alumni Association tours.  In 1993, generous contributions made by Fern Young and the Irvin L. Young Foundation helped construct the Irvin L. Young Audtiorium and Fern Young Terrace.

The Irvin L. Young Scholarship Program is designed to award UW-Whitewater students interested in teaching, financial support to further their careers.  The scholarship is awarded to any student who is eligible for entrance into the teacher education program at UW-Whitewater.
