All College of Arts and Communication majors are required to meet with their academic advisor or attend a group advising session prior to registration each semester. Please consult your major department to verify requirements.
Use WINS or contact the office of your major.
All students in the College of Arts and Communication who have earned less than 24 credits toward graduation are advised by the Academic Advising and Exploration Center located in Roseman Hall.
Once students have earned more than 24 credits they be assigned an advisor in the College.
Major, minor or degree changes are made in the office of the major you are declaring. Minor declarations and changes are made at the office of your major.
In the summer or other academic breaks, many faculty advisors are not on campus. If you need advising, contact the chairperson of the department of your major. For general questions, or if you cannot reach the department, contact the Associate Dean's Office at 262-472-1934.
If you do not have a minor advisor, you should meet with the department chair of your minor area to verify requirements. Art minors have advising holds although do not need to participate in an early registration as WINS will recognize and prioritize their designation for pre-registration. Contact the Art Dept. for information. Remember that Theatre and Dance minors have holds and must see a Theatre or Dance advisor prior to registration.
If you are a transfer student with 21 or more credits, or credits for courses that are given a 999 equivalency, you may want to check with the Associate Dean's Office, CA 2030, 472-1934 to verify that your transfer work has been properly credited.

All College of Arts and Communication majors and some minors have advising holds. Note the specific advising requirements and processes for each major and minor as listed below. Prepare for your appointment by bringing a copy of your AR and a list of questions or concerns. Review the Schedule of Classes to get an idea of what courses you might be interested in. If any area of your AR is bolded, be sure that you know why.
You have an advising hold. Each semester, all majors and minors in Art, Art Ed and MAGD Visual Media Design are required to meet with an advisor in the Department of Art and Design prior to registering for classes.
The Department offers three strategies for students to receive focused advising:·
Once you are advised, you will receive an Individualized Advising Sheet that must be turned in to the Department Office. Upon receipt of the signedIndividual Advising Sheet, the Department ADA will release your Advising Hold. At that time, barring any additional holds (ie. Terms + Conditions or unpaid fees), you should be able to register for the classes you discussed in your meeting with your advisor.
Information on Department Majors and Minors is available on the Department website and in the Undergraduate Catalog. It is each student's responsibility to meet with an advisor and become familiar with programmatic expectations. Contact the Department of Art and Design, 262-472-1324, or stop in the Department Office, CA 2070, for more information regarding the advising process.
(Journalism and Communication - includes B/P/W Journalism, International Journalism, Advertising, Public Relations, Electronic Media, and Corporate & Health Communication emphases)
You have an advising hold. To remove that hold you must participate in the Communication Department group advising event held each semester. During this process you will meet with Communication department faculty who will review your AAR and plan for next semester's registration.
Communication minors do not have an advising hold. Advertising majors or minors who wish to take Art and Design department classes may have to attend the Department of Art and Design's special pre-registration process. Check with the Department of Art and Design about that process.
(Art track and Communication track)
You have an advising hold. If you are a Communication track MAGD major or minor then follow the Communication department process. If you are an Art track MAGD major or minor then follow the Department of Art and Design's procedures.
