Can I afford it?
Cost is often a deciding factor for taking a summer or winter class. Will you be paying out of pocket, with financial aid, private loans, or through parents? If you’re seeking private loans, you need to decide pretty quickly if you’re taking a class so that you have enough time to apply for loans.Just like the fall and spring terms, students may qualify for financial aid. There is a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) available online (http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/). In order to receive aid for a summer or winter term, you need to have a current year FAFSA on file with the school. This means that if you already applied for FAFSA that year, such as for the spring/fall terms and now want to apply for summer, you’re already set. To be eligible you need to have funds left over; in other words, if you already used up your maximum funds from FAFSA, you won’t be able to receive funds for the summer term.
Students also must submit a short, simple form, which assists the system in processing your request. The form is available in the financial aid office (http://www.uww.edu/financialaid/index.php) or on the department Web site. Also, remember that before financial aid can be granted, you must already be signed up for the classes you’re going to take.
