Alfonso Cervera is a dance maker, teacher, and performer currently based Wisconsin. Originally from CA, Cervera accepted a position at the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater and shares his research on Mexican- American identity, family lineage, and Folklorico somatics as a methodology and practice of identity through contemporary dance. Developing his own technique “Poc-Chuc,” (that weaves Ballet Folklorico and modern dance movement together,) Cervera utilizes concepts of exhaustion, queerness, labor, and sociality in his works, as a way to create dances relevant to the current times. Cervera is currently a collaborator and dancer for Maria Gillespie and Chiao-Ping Ling.
