Michael Flanagan is currently the Director of the Crossman Gallery at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater where he has been working since 1995. The Crossman Gallery hosts a variety of curated shows including exhibits by nationally and internationally recognized contemporary artists along with exhibits of emerging artists in a variety of media. The gallery recently hosted a residency by Kiki Smith and will host an upcoming workshop by Nick Cave.
In addition to managing the gallery, he teaches a General Education World of the Arts class and a basic art course in the Department of Art and Design. He is a Mentor for the Beaux Arts Colony Learning Community. Flanagan is also an elected representative on the Academic Staff Assembly.
Flanagan has traveled to Oaxaca, Mexico with colleagues from UW-Whitewater to help establish a working relationship with the art department at La Universidad Autonoma Benito Juarez de Oaxaca (UABJO). During the visits he conducted Museografia Workshops with students at the university and mounted exhibits of contemporary prints by artists from Oaxaca. Some of the same artists were featured in new exhibits at the Whitewater Cultural Arts Center and the Crossman Gallery.
He is a member of the Board at the Walker's Point Center of the Arts in Milwaukee where he chairs the Exhibition Committee.
