Bethann Handzlik

Bethann Moran-Handzlik received her BA in Graphic Design and Philosophy from St. Norbert College in De Pere, WI and her MFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee.  Working from direct observation her work reflects the beauty and wonder of the natural world.  Moran’s oil paintings have been included in national juried, invitational and international exhibitions and also exhibited regionally at The Wisconsin Academy, Madison, WI, The James Watrous Gallery, Overture Center, Madison, WI, The Museum of Wisconsin Art, West Bend, WI among others.  Tory Folliard Gallery, Milwaukee, WI represented her work 1999-2006.   

Bethann has been the recipient of a Hudson River Fellowship awarded by the Grand Central Atelier, NY (2014) and a La Napoule Artist Residency in France, awarded by the La Napoule Foundation (2016).  She has painted during her travels to Scotland and throughout Europe and has had the privilege to copy master works at the National Gallery Scotland, National Gallery London among others.  Painting at the Aldo Leopold Foundation Center, Baraboo Wi, for Discovery Day is one of many plein air adventures she enjoys each year.    

Prior to teaching at UWW, Bethann was Artist in Residence at Skidmore College, NY where she painted, lectured, exhibited and taught.  She returned to Wisconsin with her husband, poet, Patrick Moran who accepted a position in the College of Letters and Science in 2000 at University of Wisconsin Whitewater.  Together they have 3 wonderful children.  If you would like to see more of her work, she posts on her blog: Bethann Moran’s Painting Adventures,  http://bethannmoranpainting.blogspot.com/.
