Professor Max White joined the Department of Art & Design in Fall 2000. She received a Master's of Fine Art Degree from the University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia, PA, with a double concentration in painting and printmaking. Prior to joining the faculty at UW-Whitewater, Max operated her own print studio "The Folsom Compound" in San Francisco, CA and was on the faculty of the Harvey Milk Institute and City College of San Francisco.

Originally from Massachusetts, Max received her undergraduate degree from Colby College, in Waterville, ME. Although formally trained as a printmaker and painter, Max sustains a multidisciplinary studio practice that includes photography, digital imaging and drawing. Her research interests lie in Eastern philosophy and culture, and Western Gothic and Early Renaissance art. Her work touches on intersections of psychological conflict, minority status and spiritual experience.

In 2014, Max mounted an exhibition entitled "Invoking Drala (A Buddhist Sense of Magic & Wonder) in Digital Imaging and Drawing" at the Cultural Arts Center of Universidad Autónoma Benito Juárez de Oaxaca, in Oaxaca, México. Other exhibitions include: The San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery, San Francisco, CA; Pop Revolution Gallery, Mason, Ohio; Beijing Normal University Gallery, Beijing, China; Institut Franco-Américain, Rennes, France; Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA.
