Media Arts & Game Development Labs

Launched in the Spring of 2010, the design, hardware, and functionality of the MAGD Media Lab in McGraw 127 is on the cutting edge of educational technology. The theme of the lab is high definition, tapeless, streamlined workflow that includes such collaborative technologies as HD video conferencing and a dedicated cloud storage solution. In all, the MAGD program boasts five fully equipped multimedia labs spread out across three campus buildings, perfect iMacplaygrounds for 21st century media production, distribution, and innovation.

Lab features include:

  • 21 27" iMacs: 3.06 GHz, 4GB mem, 1TB HD
  • Floating teacher's station
  • Final Cut Pro Suite
  • video camera3DS Max Suite
  • Adobe Production Premium Suite
  • HD video cameras, sound and lighting equipment
  • Bluescreen and blackscreen soundstage with acoustic optimization
  • Image and sound libraries
  • PlayStation 355" HD display
  • Distributed audio system
  • Gaming systems: PS3, XBox 360, Nintendo Wii
  • Video game library
  • HD video conferencing unit
  • Cloud Storage

The Whitewater Innovation Center

Whitewater Tech ParkIn the Fall of 2009, a $4.7 million federal Economic Development Administration grant was awarded to the Whitewater University Technology Park to help fund the Innovation Center.

The Innovation Center is designed to foster the development of new business-based research conducted by University of Wisconsin-Whitewater faculty and staff and their business partners and is Whitewater Tech Parkexpected to create several hundred jobs in the future.

The MAGD program will benefit from the well-funded initiative, as projects created in our gaming/multimedia program will have the opportunity to mature and become monetized via the Whitewater Innovation Center's Business Incubator.
