Music MosaicThe UW-Whitewater Music Faculty and Staff have joined forces to bring the campus, community and alumni “Music Mosaics.” This series benefits the Music Department's Scholarship Fund, which allows the department to recognize students for their musical talents and academic excellence. There is a wide variety of events to chose from each one featuring the many talents of the Music Department's faculty and staff.

Songs by Women Composers
Tuesday, September 25 at 7:30 pm

This wide-ranging program by mezzo-soprano Julie Cross, pianists Karen Boe and George Ferencz and cellist Jane Ferencz includes works by women, ranging from the medieval mystic Hildegard of Bingen to contemporary American composer Libby Larson. Also featured will be a cantata by the early Baroque singer Francesca Caccini, and art songs by the 19th-century piano virtuoso Clara Schumann.

Chung plays Chopin
Tuesday, October 2 at 7:30 pm

Pianist MyungHee Chung, always an audience favorite in the Mosaics series, performs a concert centered on Frederic Chopin's grand Piano Sonata No.3-his last major work, and among the most profound piano works of the Romantic Era.

Lyrical Chamber Music from the Nineteenth Century
Sunday, November 11 at 7:30 pm

This faculty trio program-featuring clarinetist Christian Ellenwood, cellist Benjamin Whitcomb, and pianist MyungHee Chung-features Austrian music from the beginning and end of the Romantic Era: including Beethoven's early trios for this expressive combination of timbres and the seldom-heard Trio in A minor by the late Romantic composer Carl Fruhling.

Ancora String Quartet: Romantic Quartets
Tuesday, January 29 at 7:30 pm

The Ancora String Quartet-violinists Leanne League and Robin Ryan, violist Marika Fischer Hoyt, and cellist Benjamin Whitcomb-presents a pair of Romantic quartets on this recital. The early 19th-century Basque musician Juan Crisostomo de Arriaga died at age 20, but produced a host of works in his short career, including the fine Quartet No.2 in A Major. The Ancora Quartet then turns to the Quartet in E minor by Giuseppe Verdi-one of the few purely instrumental works by Italy's greatest opera composer.

Vocal Tapestry III
Sunday, February 10 at 7:30 pm

Our third annual Vocal Tapestry program brings together musical styles and languages from around the world. From Irish songs in both English and Gaelic, and Norwegian folk songs, the program ranges further afield to songs drawn from several African, and Klezmer-flavored works in Hebrew and Yiddish. Featured voices in this concert are Sheila Feay-Shaw, Julie Cross, Christine Hayes, Bob Gehrenbeck, Brian Leeper, Steven Shaw, and Thayer Coburn

Matan Rubinstein and Friends
Saturday, March 8 at 7:30 pm

New UWW faculty member Matan Rubinstein is a fine Jazz pianist and a talented composer. The program features his original compositions for small Jazz ensemble and much more.

Chamber Music Masterpieces
for Clarinet, Viola, and Piano

Sunday, April 6 at 3:00 pm

Albion College pianist David Abbott joins Christian Ellenwood for this program which will include one of the fine clarinet sonatas by Johannes Brahms. Violist Elisabeth Ellenwood joins in for Mozart's Trio in E-flat Major for Clarinet, Viola, and Piano.
