Junior Audition Clinic

Join us at UW-Whitewater's Junior Audition Clinic on Friday, April 3, 2020!

• Are you a high school junior thinking about majoring in music in college?
• Do you have questions about the audition process?
• Are you interested in improving your preparation and performance for college and other auditions?

High school juniors and their parents are invited to attend this free event for prospective music majors. Participants will have the opportunity to perform a mock audition for UW-W music faculty in their area and receive feedback on their performances. Informative sessions on audition preparation, participatory clinics to improve audition performance, and master classes with studio faculty will also be offered.

UW-W music faculty share helpful tips and strategies to improve your audition performances in these participatory clinics. Bring your instruments and choose your clinics!

11:00-11:30 a.m. Give Your Best Audition: Strategies for Managing Performance Anxiety
Dr. Rachel Wood, UW-Whitewater Voice Professor, will guide you through techniques and strategies to manage performance anxiety and help you give your best audition. 

11:00-11:30 a.m. Improving Your Music Theory “Chops
Music theory and ear-training skills are essential for success as a music major, but what exactly does that mean? In this session, Dr. Benjamin Whitcomb, UW-Whitewater Cello Professor, will walk students through the specific skills needed in these area along with how best to prepare for them.

11:30-12:00 p.m. Motivating Yourself to Practice . . . every day
Do you have difficulty motivating yourself to practice, whether occasionally or all the time? In this session, Dr. Benjamin Whitcomb, UW-Whitewater Cello Professor, will share a variety of tips and strategies for successfully making yourself practice—and even to enjoy it!

11:30-12:00 p.m. Auditions, Auditions!: Prepare Yourself
College auditions, ensemble auditions, and competition auditions! From creating preparation timelines to improving your mindset in all audition situations, Dr. Christopher Ramaekers, UW-Whitewater’s Director of Orchestras, will share practical tips for how to best prepare for all types of auditions.

12:00-1:00 p.m. Lunch/Warm-Up
For Students: Warm-up Time for Auditions. Please note: Lunch is not provided. There is a food service conveniently located in the Atrium of the Greenhill Center of the Arts that serves breakfast and lunch items and there are also several restaurants within walking distance of the building.

1:00 p.m.   Mock Auditions Begin by Area (Times and Locations provided at Registration)
