Choir Ensemble

Concert Choir - Robert Gehrenbeck, director
The UW-Whitewater Concert Choir is a select, mixed group of about sixty singers that performs music of all styles in campus concerts and on occasional tours. The choir has performed on convention programs of the Wisconsin Music Educators Association and the Wisconsin Choral Directors Association. An audition is required.

Chamber Singers - Robert Gehrenbeck, director
The UW-Whitewater Chamber Singers is a select ensemble of twenty-four to thirty voices specializing in the study and performance of repertoire written for small choral ensemble such as madrigals, chansons, and part songs of all periods. The group tours each spring semester and often collaborates with other choirs in the University or the region to perform major works. The Chamber Singers have been privileged to commission and premier new works, including pieces by some Chamber Singers members. An audition is required.

Class Act - Kenneth Harned, director
The UW-Whitewater Class Act is a select group of twelve to sixteen mixed voices that performs jazz, swing, and musical theatre repertoire in concerts both on and off campus. Openings are also available for additional rhythm section instrumentalists. An audition is required.

Women's Chorale - Kenneth Harned, director
The UW-Whitewater Women's Chorale is a select ensemble of thirty treble voices that performs a wide variety of works from the rich tradition of Renaissance through Contemporary compositions for women?s voices. An audition is required.

Gospel Choir - Leotha Stanley, director
The UW-Whitewater Gospel Choir is open to all students and currently consists of forty members. Students learn about the history of Gospel Music and sing at special engagements. The choir performs two concerts in the calendar year. No previous gospel singing is required.

Opera Workshop - Brian Leeper, director
Opera Workshop introduces the singing actor to the basic techniques incorporated in the staging of opera through acting exercises, culminating in a performance of staged and costumed one-act operas and opera scenes. Opera Workshop is intended for more advanced singers, but is open to all university students by audition. An audition is required. Additionally, there are opportunities to sing in complete opera and musical productions as described below.

Musicals and Operas - Robert Gehrenbeck & Brian Leeper, directors
The Department of Music in collaboration with the Theatre & Dance Department annually presents a musical or an opera. These productions are fully costumed and staged and are intended for more advanced singers and actors. The musicals and operas are open to all university students by audition.
