Otis Murphy is professor of saxophone at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, joined by Haruko Murphy, piano. Chicago Tribune writes, "Murphy's playing is bright, alert . . . always with a polish and sensitivity that make the most of the music."


Symphonic Wind Ensemble & University/Community Band

The UW-Whitewater Symphonic Wind Ensemble is the premiere wind and percussion ensemble on campus. It is open by audition to all qualified students, regardless of major. SWE has distinguished itself internationally, nationally and regionally. Honors include being the first university band from Wisconsin to perform at Carnegie Hall. The Symphonic Wind Ensemble has performed by invitation at conventions of the British Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles, College Band Directors National Conference and the National Association of Music Educators. The ensemble re-auditions every semester.


Chamber Singers & Vocal Jazz Ensemble

The UW-W Chamber Singers, together with the UW-W Vocal Jazz Ensemble, will embark on an international tour to Germany and Poland from May 21 - June 2, 2019. In preparation for this tour, they will present works by Bach and more.


Guest Artist: Sonict presents Grant Blaschka

Guest artist Grant Blaschka is a bassist and composer living in Madison, WI. His work is inspired by an interest in the natural world, partial theory, and harmonic structures, most often exploring the intersections between improvisation and composition while utilizing computers and electronics. Recently he has been working on meditative and ethereal music which relies on just intonation and microtonal relationships, while pushing the bounds of natural harmonics on the upright bass. He received his Bachelor's degree in bass performance from the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater and is currently working on a Master's degree at the Hartt School under the guidance of Robert Black. He performs solo, improvised electroacoustic pieces in the Madison area and has performed prominent works by composers such as Kaija Saariaho, Cort Lippe, Matt Sargent, and more.


Karen Boe, piano & Friends

Faculty member Karen Boe, piano will be joined by guest artists Xavier Pleindoux, violin; Karl Lavine, cello; and J.J. Koh, clarinet. This talented group of musicians will perform works including Claude Debussy's first composition, Piano Trio in G major, and Olivier Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time, among others.


Whitewater Symphony Orchestra

In addition to performing 2-3 concerts each semester, the Symphony Orchestra tours semi-annually. Repertoire selections focus on standard symphonic masterworks, but include a variety of works from the classical period to modern day. Each year student concerto soloists are selected to perform with the orchestras through the annual concerto competition and members of the music faculty at UW-Whitewater make guest solo appearances with the orchestras.

Cosmographie performances convey awareness and inspiration to the audience concerning our earth and its environment. These performances bring live music, interactive video, audio mash-ups, poetry, dance, and natural soundscapes into a moving, thought-provoking event.


Faculty Concert: Music of the Holocaust by Matt Sintchak

Professor Matt Sintchak presents a concert of works exploring the Holocaust as part of Yom HaShoah.


Whitewater Symphony Orchestra & Chamber Orchestra

In addition to performing 2-3 concerts each semester, the Symphony Orchestra tours semi-annually. Repertoire selections focus on standard symphonic masterworks, but include a variety of works from the classical period to modern day. Each year student concerto soloists are selected to perform with the orchestras through the annual concerto competition and members of the music faculty at UW-Whitewater make guest solo appearances with the orchestras.
The Chamber Orchestra is a select string ensemble that performs works fro the Baroque through present day. Membership is open to any student on campus, however an ability to learn repertoire quickly and outside of rehearsal is necessary. The Chamber Orchestra performs in concerts by themselves as well as alongside the Symphony Orchestra, and is occasionally supplemented with minds, brass, and percussion as needed. The Chamber Orchestra also participates in the annual concerto competition which highlights solo talent from among UW-Whitewater music majors.
