Director of Choral Activities Robert Gehrenbeck joined the faculty of UW?Whitewater in 2006. Before coming to Whitewater he held teaching positions at Indiana University, Bloomington; DePauw University; and MacMurray College. He has conducted community-based choruses in Indiana, Illinois, and Minnesota, and directed numerous music theatre productions. As a singer, Gehrenbeck specializes in lieder, art song, and early music. He has appeared with New York State Baroque, Bach and the Baroque, and the Bloomington Early Music Festival, and is a former member of Boston's Cantata Singers and the Robert Shaw Festival Singers. Repertoire and research interests include Latin American music, intersections between music and literature in German Romantic music, and contemporary choral music. His recently completed doctoral dissertation is the first full-length study of contemporary British composer, Giles Swayne.
