Biography

Dr. Hanson works with talented undergraduate and graduate trumpet students, assisting them to develop performance and musicianship skills for careers as professional performers and teachers. In addition, he also conducts the UW-Whitewater Trumpet Ensemble and Brass Choir, performs with the Whitewater Brass Quintet, and teaches courses in brass literature and brass pedagogy

In addition to teaching at UW-Whitewater, Dr. Hanson is an active orchestral musician, recitalist, chamber musician, and clinician. He has appeared as soloist with the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra in works by Torelli, Shostakovich, Haydn, Barber, Sallinen and others, and performs frequently on Wisconsin Public Radio broadcast recitals with the Whitewater Brass Quintet and others. He is currently a member of the Madison Symphony Orchestra and the Principal Trumpet of the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra. Prior to joining the faculty at UW-Whitewater, Dr. Hanson performed with the Akron Symphony, Canton Symphony, Columbus Symphony Orchestras, and with the summer Classical Music Festival Orchestra in Eisenstadt and Vienna, Austria.
