Biography
Kenneth A. Harned received his bachelors degree in music education from The Ohio State University in 1991, and a masters degree in choral music from the University of Southern California in 2002. He has completed coursework towards a doctoral degree in choral conducting from Ball State University, where he conducted the 100-voice Choral Union, Womens Chorus, and Statesmen Mens Chorus, in addition to teaching Music Appreciation, Aural Skills, and Undergraduate Conducting. Repertoire and research interests include mens choral music, sight-singing methods, the English madrigalists, and the choral music of Claudio Monteverdi, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Leonard Bernstein. He has studied with several prominent conductors and educators, including James Gallagher, Lynn Bielefelt, William Dehning, Doug Amman, Jeff Pappas, Tim Gerber, and Tim Lautzenheiser.
Mr. Harned previously served as Associate Professor of Music at St. Charles Community College in Cottleville, Missouri, where he conducted the SCC Chamber Choir, Show Choir, and a local community chorus. His duties also included teaching undergraduate conducting, music theory, aural skills, and private voice.In addition to his collegiate teaching experience, Ken has over ten years experience teaching high school vocal and instrumental music in the public schools. He has also served as an adjudicator and clinician in California, Missouri, Indiana, and Ohio. Professional affiliations include membership in the American Choral Directors Association, National Association for Music Education, Intercollegiate Mens Choruses, and College Music Society.
