This invitation is extended to all high school orchestra directors to nominate (up to eight) high school string orchestra students for the UW-Whitewater Symphony Orchestra High School Honors Orchestra 2012. This is an opportunity for your students to join together to make beautiful music with other fine musicians from Southeastern Wisconsin. There is no audition to join the UWW Honors Orchestra, as students will be accepted through school director nominations. Therefore, please include payment with your nomination form for each student you are sending to this event.
Steven Rindt, Director of the UWW Symphony and Chamber Orchestras and Susan Chandler, UWW String Music Education, will direct the honors orchestra. Selected members of the WSO will serve as peer mentors as well as playing in a side-by-side setting with the high school performers throughout these two days.
Unlike most other honors orchestra festivals, the UWW Honors Orchestra will also include technique/sectional classes taught by the UWW Applied Faculty of violin/viola, cello and string bass. These studio professors are of the highest caliber serving as principal and soloist members of professional orchestras and/or ensembles.
The concert repertoire has been chosen to challenge and inspire students desire to achieve a higher standard of personal technique and ensemble performance. The WSO wind, brass and percussion sections will join with the high school performers to allow for a full symphonic experience. Once all registrations are received, the individual parts for the selected music will be mailed in one bulk mailing to the high school director for distribution to the students.
The UWW Honors High School Orchestra weekend begins Friday, January 27 2:30 PM to 7:00 PM. Saturday, January 28 rehearsal will begin at 9:00 AM and will conclude with an Honors Orchestra Concert at 3:00 PM in Young Auditorium. Attendance at both days of rehearsals are required in order to perform the concert. Dinner on Friday and lunch on Saturday will be provided.
The cost of the UWW Honors Orchestra is $35.00. Please make checks payable to: UWW Symphony Orchestra. Registration fee includes: Honors T-Shirt (which will be the concert shirt), dinner on Friday and lunch on Saturday. Housing at the university is not available, but there are motels in the vicinity if you want to stay overnight.
Please complete the application form by Friday, December 9th (available below). Music will be mailed/delivered to schools by mid-December before the Winter Break.
