Student Organizations

There are a number of professional music-related student organizations for UW Whitewater students interested in music.

CMENC: Collegiate Music Educators National Conference

CMENC is the collegiate branch of MENC: the National Association for Music Education which is celebrating 100 years in 2007. CMENC offer music education students access to professional journals, conferences, and resources at reduced prices. MENC has created a mentorship program within the organization which is available to CMENC members online. It is the hallmark professional organization for all levels and areas of music education. If music education is your goal, then CMENC should be your destination.

Delta Omicron International Music Fraternity

Delta Omicron International Music Fraternity is a professional music fraternity with collegiate chapters established throughout the United States and abroad. The organization was founded in 1909 at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music by three undergraduate students.  Delta Omicron is the only organization of its kind founded by students for students. From 1909 to the present, twenty-six Delta Omicron national presidents have guided the fraternity to achieve and fulfill its purposes and objectives. Members are selected on the basis of talent, scholarship, and character. The Delta Omicron International Music Fraternity and Delta Omicron Foundation, Inc. provide support for scholarships, grants-in-aid, and awards to Delta Omicron chapters and members in good standing. At UW-Whitewater, the organization is also active in support of many of the activities in the Department of Music.

S-NATS National Association of Teachers of Singing

S-NATS is a student chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. It encourages the high standards of singing through excellennce in teaching and the promotion of voice education and research. Members participate in state and regional competitions, and professional development activities. The UW-Whitewater chapter sponsors three to four events each semester, generally bringing a guest artist or professional to campus each semester. Anyone interested in singing excellence or pedagogy is invited to join. Student members have access to the Journal of Singing at a reduced rate.

ASTA (American String Teachers Association)

Student ASTA is a student chapter of the American String Teachers Association. Founded more than 60 years ago, ASTA is a membership organization for string and orchestra teachers and players, helping them to develop and refine their careers. ASTA's members range from budding student teachers to artist-status performers. The organization provides a vast array of services, including instrument insurance, an award-winning scholarly journal, discounts on publications and resources, annual professional development opportunities, and access to collegial network of colleagues throughout the string profession.
