According to Martha Graham, an American choreographer considered one of the pioneers of modern dance, "Dancing is just discovery, discovery, discovery." The dancers, choreographers and designers present their newest discoveries in DanceScapes '11, the Theatre/Dance Department's annual dance concert. Under the artistic direction of faculty member Robin Pettersen, DanceScapes '11 features pieces choreographed by students, faculty and guest artists, offering new perspectives and fresh voices to the art of dance. The pieces employ a wide range of styles and techniques, exploring the different messages that dance can convey. The dancers, comprised of students from many different majors on campus, combine creativity and inspiration, movement and music to communicate something unique through the language of their bodies. The results are a beautiful discovery in the art of dance - a rare treat that's not to be missed.
