A pay-per-use toilet during a trip to Europe inspired a Tony-winning musical? That's Greg Kotis' story when asked about the idea behind Urinetown. The satirical parody of traditional musicals (and often times, itself), is set amid a 20-year drought, during which the water shortage has become so severe that citizens now pay to pee-or face punishment in the mysterious no-man's-land of Urinetown. As is often the case when fine, law-abiding citizens feel their rights are being infringed upon, a rebellion starts against the Urine Good Company to allow the citizen to "pee for free!" Urinetown is a laugh-out-loud silly look at capitalism, bureaucracy, social irresponsibility and petty small town politics. As they say, "when you gotta go, you gotta go!" -and you gotta go see Urinetown.
