Hawk Internship Program (HIP)
The Hawk Internship Program (HIP), coordinated by UW-Whitewater Career & Leadership Development, serves as a centralized listing of internship opportunities in the Walworth, Rock, and Jefferson County area. The program seeks to provide UW-Whitewater students with more access to internships.
How to Participate in the Hawk Internship Program (HIP)
- See the menu of current HIP opportunities. Only limited information on each internship position is listed online.
- If you find an opportunity that you would like to apply for, send an email to Laura Jacobs, Internship Coordinator, at MorrowL@uww.edu requesting the full position description and application instructions for the position*. You must include the specific name of the internship position and employer/organization offering the position in your email.
- It is strongly recommended that you prepare thoroughly for your application and potential interview. You should meet with a Career Counselor to have your resume reviewed and to participate in a "mock" interview.
- If you secure a HIP internship position, you must report this to the Internship Coordinator and schedule a brief mandatory meeting with her. This meeting is to address strategies for making the most of the internship, questions about the internship, and expectations of students completing an internship through the program. You will be asked to sign an expectations agreement. To report your hire, contact Laura via email at MorrowL@uww.edu.
- Students participating in an internship through the program are expected to complete an evaluation at the conclusion of their internship.
*The application and hiring processes will be handled solely by the employer/organization offering the internship position.
Students who wish to seek academic credit for their participation in a Hawk Internship Program position are also encouraged to speak with the faculty internship coordinator in their major field of study. In order for a student to earn academic credit for an internship, he/she may need to meet certain academic or other prerequisites.
In general, a student must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 to qualify for Hawk Internship Program positions. Please be aware that some employers may choose to require a higher GPA in order to qualify for their individual positions. In addition, students seeking academic credit through their major may need a higher GPA in order to earn academic credit.
Hawk Internship Program Vision
The UW-Whitewater Hawk Internship Program (HIP), sponsored by Career & Leadership Development, provides career development internships for the university's undergraduate students. These internships may or may not relate to students' majors, but do relate to their career goals. The program, open to students from all majors, links students and local employers for career-related experiences that will make graduates more marketable in their future job searches.
HIP is designed to:
- Assist undergraduate students in identifying and pursuing career development internships.
- Provide undergraduate students with access to internship opportunities in Whitewater and the surrounding communities.
- Educate students on all available campus internship resources and help them identify the internship opportunities that fit their goals.
- Provide employers with resources for creating internship opportunities and accessing UW-Whitewater students.
