Solo Voice Camp

August 3 - 8, 2014

The UW-Whitewater Solo Voice Camp is the ideal camp for young singers in grades 9-12 including graduating seniors who have some solo experience and would like to learn more about their voice and the world of the singer-actor in a supportive atmosphere. Students interested in pursuing a career in vocal performance or vocal music education are encouraged to attend. Daily Master Classes will include stage deportment, song interpretation, diction for singers, and working with conductors.

Students will receive daily lessons (included in tuition) that will focus on posture, breathing, support, healthy production and projection of the voice. Coaching is also an integral part of the solo singer’s life. Students will also have coaching with pianists and faculty on collaboration. Evenings will consist of student recitals, mock audition seminars and performances by faculty and staff.

Enrollment is limited to the first 40 applicants.

Camp Cost

Resident Camper (Includes room and board) $490
Commuter Camper (Includes lunch and dinner) $390

Camp cost for residents and commuters will include instruction, insurance coverage, camp t-shirt and all instructional materials. There will also be evening recitals and activities including swimming, tennis and volleyball.

Camp Scholarships

Outstanding male and female camper scholarships will be awarded on the last day of camp. (Applicable to future camps)

Camp Staff

Baritone Brian Leeper

Baritone Brian LeeperBaritone Brian Leeper is the Vocal Area Coordinator at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, where he teaches Studio Voice, Vocal Pedagogy and directs the Opera Workshop. In 2011, Brian was the recipient of the Instructional Excellence Award for Academic Staff at UW-Whitewater. In addition to his position at UW-Whitewater, he is also Artistic Director of La Musica Lirica, a five-week intensive opera program in Novafeltria, Italy. Brian currently holds the office of President of the Wisconsin Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing.

Equally at home with Oratorio and Opera, Mr. Leeper has performed over twenty major roles with opera companies in the US and abroad, including a national radio broadcast concert performance of Candide with the Cleveland Orchestra. Solo appearances over the past three years include Haydn’s Creation, the St. John Passion, Messiah, Elijah, Don Pasquale, L’Elisir d’Amore and Die Fledermaus and a concert of Chopin and Musical Theatre in Krakow, Poland. Brian has coached art song with John Wustman, Martin Katz, Jessica Paul and Valerie Trujillo and opera with Sherrill Milnes. Voice instructors include Yvonne Ciannella, Roy Delp, Richard Grace, Harold Stark and David Judisch.

Mr. Leeper formerly served on the voice faculties of Butler University, Operafestival di Roma and Lutheran Summer Music. His voice students have gone on to win numerous awards and competitions, and are currently singing in houses in the United States and Europe. Brian holds degrees from Luther College and The University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and has done further graduate study at the Florida State University.

Housing & Dining

Campers have the option of commuting or staying on the scenic campus of UW-Whitewater. Camp Counselors live in the residence halls and are available to help students during orientation and in organizing student activities.


Each camper will be covered by a limited accident insurance policy. The insurance includes primary coverage up to $7,500 and $300 maximum dental insurance. Insurance does not cover pre-existing injuries and is for accidents only. The cost of insurance is included in the registration fee.
