Mark your calendars for another enjoyable and educational Cello Fest at UW-Whitewater on Saturday, Jan. 19. The day’s events will include rehearsals of a Cello Orchestra that will perform at the end of the day. The conductor will be Emanuele Andrizzi, UW-W’s new Director of Orchestras, who is also the assistant conductor for the Lyric Opera of Chicago. The repertoire, which includes works by Bruckner, Hoffmeister, Gabrielli, Wilbye, and the Beatles, will be sent in advance to those who register early.

The day’s events will also include a session on cello technique by guest artist Tanya Carey, a session on making transcriptions and arrangements for cello ensemble by George Ferencz, and a session on creating one’s own cadenzas by Benjamin Whitcomb.

Tanya Carey - Guest Artist

Tanya Carey ImageTanya Lesinsky Carey, cellist, has presented masterclasses and concerts in over thirty states and many countries. Her orchestral experiences include the post of assistant principal of the Milwaukee Symphony, associate principal of the Quad City Symphony, and prizewinning recordings with the Rochester Philharmonic. As a recitalist and chamber musician, she has presented concerts in Tully and Carnegie Halls, performed concertos with orchestra, and recorded two records with the Lydian Trio.

She has earned the Faculty Excellence, Faculty Merit, and Outstanding Teacher Awards from Western Illinois University, and the Suzuki Chair Award from the American Suzuki Institute. The ASTA-Illinois Unit named her the “Outstanding Studio Teacher of the Year” for 1992. Her students have won prizes in major contests. She has taught at Western Illinois University, the DePaul University Community Music School, and Wheaton College, and she taught for 14 years at the Meadowmount School of Music. She maintains a studio in Glen Ellyn, and is frequently sought after as a clinician. Carey holds a BM and MM from Eastman and a DMA from the University of Iowa.

Early Bird Registration (before January 1, 2013): $35.00.

Registration Deadline: Registrations accepted after January 1, 2013 (including walk-ins on the day of the event) will be accepted for a registration fee of $45.

Registration: $45.00. The cost of registration includes lunch, a rosin rag, and a booklet containing all of the day’s repertoire plus some bonus pieces.

$10.00 CD of concert delivered by mail after the festival
Space is limited to the first 80 cellists to register for participation in the orchestra.
Everyone is welcome as audience members!

•Proper attire for the concert: bright clothing.

Each camper will be covered by a limited accident insurance policy. The insurance includes primary coverage up to $7,500 and $300 maximum dental insurance. Insurance does not cover pre-existing injuries and is for accidents only. The cost of insurance is included in the registration fee.
