Coach Matthew Pederson started playing rugby while stationed Okinawa Japan in the Army in 1994. During his playing career he was selected to All Armed Forces team in Europe in 1998. While in Germany from 1996 to 2000, Coach Pederson helped start a rugby club on his base, Bauhmholder.  Over the next 3.5 years he would act as a player-coach, captain and club president. Coach Pederson started coaching at UW-Whitewater 2005.  During his coaching stint at UW-Whitewater, Coach Pederson has also been the President of the Wisconsin Rugby Club for 3 years and the WI Collegiate Select Side Coach for 4 years, leading the WI Selects to 3 Midwest Championships. Coach Pederson has assisted former college players with finding playing and coaching opportunities with clubs overseas and throughout America with his extensive network of coaches and administrators he has met over the years. Coach Pederson has played rugby in approximately 10 countries around the world.

Patrick O'Connor, CoachCoach O'Connor

Coach Patrick O’Connor started playing rugby in the fall of his sophomore year at West Point. During his playing days in the military, he was selected to the Combined Services Team as a Hooker for the their inaugural tour in 1984. This led to his selection to the All Army Team for the next five years. He then shifted to player-coach at Fort Campbell, KY, in 1989. When Patrick started graduate school in 1993, he also started coaching the men's rugby team. When the women started a team, he worked with them until they found a coach. In the past 26 years, he has balanced family and work commitments with making practice and matches. He also served as the Secretary of USA Rugby from 1998 to 2004. While coaching the Warhawks, he completed the Level 100, 200 and 300 Coaching series. As a coach, he worked to instill the spirit of rugby into the players so that they would become lifetime ruggers. He hoped that following graduation they would continue to contribute to the sport as a player, coach, referee, administrator, or fan. Thirteen years ago he was joined by Coach Matthew Pederson who took on coaching the backs and was followed two years later by Coach Tim Probst to coach the scrum. In the last seven years, the Warhawks have won three National 15’s Championships and one National 7’s Championship. Along with enjoying every match the Warhawks play, he follows the US Eagles. Over the years, he has watched the Eagles play in the States, Canada, and Ireland.
