A study course to Montana and Wyoming offered by the Department of Biological Sciences in cooperation with the Office of Continuing Education, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. (Biology 350, 2 undergrad credits)
Our primary destination will be Yellowstone National Park. Participants will explore the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem from ecological and geological perspectives. While on the road to and from Yellowstone, the group will stay at local motels (multiple occupancy). The Track Education Center and Museum in Gardiner, Montana will be the group's primary residence while in the Yellowstone area. If necessary, we will also utilize local motels (multiple occupancy).
During the week in Yellowstone, students will cross country ski along the Tower Falls trail to explore wildlife and geologic features. They will also attend workshops on winter ecology conducted by Dr. Halfpenny. During these workshops, students will perform field work and data collection in the Lamar Valley. Visits are also planned to explore the geothermal features of Mammoth Hot Springs as well as a Snowcoach tour of the geothermal features of various geyser basins in Yellowstone National Park. An optional downhill ski day is also planned (cost of lift ticked and equipment rental is not included).
This course is open to all university students or anyone else who has serious interest in these topics.

Program Cost: $1,800 (estimate; financial aid may apply)*
Cost includes transportation to and from Yellowstone, lodging, ecology classes at the Track Education Center in Gardiner, Montana, snow coach tour, cross country ski rental, and all other instructional costs including two undergraduate credits. Meals are not included in the program cost. Cost of lift ticket and equipment rental for downhill ski trip not included.
