January 25, 2008
Dear campus and community:
I wanted to give you an update on the progress of the Chancellor Search and Screen process. We began in earnest in November 2007 and have communicated with hundreds of individuals who have helped shape the challenges facing the next UW-Whitewater chancellor and the qualities we need to consider in the selection process. With this in mind, we thus far have met with the following groups/individuals:
- President Martha Saunders, USM
- Student leaders
- Deans
- Chancellor's staff
- Faculty Senate Executive Committee
- Academic Assembly
- Former UW-Whitewater Chancellors Connor and Greenhill
- Department chairs
- Division of Student Affairs
- Center for Students with Disabilities
- Multi-Cultural Student Council leaders
- Plan 2008
- Chancellor Wells of UW-Oshkosh, Chancellor Gow of UW-La Crosse
- Chancellor's Task Force on LGBT Issues
- Campus open forum
Although much has been accomplished in a short period of time, your input will be required at two different points in time. First, though you have provided us with a broad list of required chancellor qualities, we have as yet not prioritized this set. With this in mind, we plan on holding a second open forum and administering a campus-wide survey to all students, faculty, staff, classified staff and administrators so that we can uncover which qualities are most important to you and our campus. Second, in May we will be bringing up to five candidates to campus. We will again be holding open forums for you to meet these candidates, followed by an online survey that allows you to evaluate the candidates.
As I noted at the start of this process, our Search and Screen Committee is committed to having an open process, one that involves all of our constituency groups. Please feel free to contact me if you feel that we have not heard from an important constituency group at peltierj@uww.edu
Again, thank you for the massive array of input that you have provided us thus far.
Respectfully and on behalf of the Chancellor Search and Screen Committee

Jimmy Peltier
Chair SS Committee
