Opening with President Reilly

  • Introductions
  • Charge
    • Create an unranked list of at least 5 candidates
    • Search firm must be chosen
    • Interview 10 to 12 finalists in Milwaukee.
    • Committee will narrow the pool and present the strengths and proposed areas of improvement of the final five candidates to the Special Regents Committee
    • The finalists are announced and invited to visit the campus
    • The finalists are interviewed by the Special Regents Committee at Van Hise Hall in Madison and a decision will be made on that day
    • The Special Regents Committee recommends their choice and then the full board must vote
    • After the search, Jimmy Peltier will compile a report about how the search went
    • Timing of this process
      • Work of the Search and Screen Committee finished by May 2008
      • Hope to have new Chancellor in place by July 2008

    • It can be helpful to talk with current and retired chancellors
    • Confidentiality is imperative
    • All inquiries from the press should be directed at Jimmy Peltier

Charging Meeting Ended - - Address by Chair Jimmy Peltier to the Committee

  • Introduction of Vice Chair of the Search and Screen Committee, Diana Rogers-Adkinson
  • Time commitment for the committee is heavy - meeting attendance is a priority
  • Standing meeting time Monday mornings at 7:45 in Room 142 of Hyer Hall. Next scheduled meetings are:
    • Monday, November 26, 2007 at 7:45 AM
    • Monday, December 3, 2007 at 7:45 AM
      • Faculty Senate representatives will come at 8:00
      • Academic Assembly representatives will come at 8:45
  • Miscellaneous information
    • There will be open forums with the campus and the community, but likely not until next semester
    • Minutes from the meetings and open forums will be posted on the University website
    • During open debate in committee meetings, every committee member has equal standing
    • Protecting the privacy of the candidates is very important
    • Direct questions from the media to Jimmy Peltier
    • In the end, the Search and Screen Committee does not choose the Chancellor. The Committee makes recommendations and presents the strengths and areas for improvement for each candidate to the Special Board of Regents and President Reilly.
    • The search firm will do background checks on the candidates and will provide a list in early December

      • Committee meetings are open and information from these meetings and the open forum will be summarized and posted on the University website

      • The committee consults with the Academic Assembly, the Faculty Senate, the Deans, the Chancellor’s staff, the student body, and the community to decide what is desired in a new Chancellor.
      • Those 10 to 12 applicants are interviewed by the committee in Milwaukee
    • Process of reviewing the résumés was discussed
    • Procedure if none of the 5 applications recommended by the committee are chosen
      • Can there be a backup pool to choose from?
      • If so, then how do we handle rejections?
