Welcome to the College of Letters and Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater! As you explore our site, you will notice programs which emphasize both a broad liberal education and career-orientation with real world experience. Our goal is to educate students for the knowledge based economy of the twenty-first century.
Consequently, courses in General Education as well as specialized courses in the major work to develop skills, attitudes, knowledge, and values essential to a successful life in a changing and dynamic world: communication skills, an appreciation of diverse cultures and people, critical thinking, analytical problem solving, quantitative reasoning, information literacy, civic responsibility and engagement, and integrated learning. In other words, we encourage you to develop as an independent thinker.
In addition to the humanities, social sciences, and sciences traditionally associated with Letters & Sciences, we offer programs in emerging career oriented areas such as forensic science, legal studies, public history, publishing, and criminal justice. Our science programs, housed in the recently renovated Upham Hall, include strong pre-professional programs in pre-med, pre-vet, pre-dentistry, and pre-chiropractic as well as the Biological Sciences Honors track and the Marine Biology program offered in conjunction with Deakin University in Australia. As you explore our site, no doubt you will encounter courses and opportunities which will expand your horizons. Through challenging coursework, the mentorship of innovative and engaging faculty, internships, the alumni mentor program, and study abroad programs, we hope to ignite your intellectual curiosity and to develop your knowledge base and skills, providing a strong foundation for your life in the changing world beyond college.
As you navigate our site, we hope that our sense of mission and the quality of our programs will be evident. Please don't hesitate to contact me with questions about our programs or about the web site. Again, welcome!
