Departments within the College of Letters and Sciences are located throughout the UW-Whitewater campus in the following buildings:
Baker Hall
Home to the Departments of Mathematics and Computer Science and History. Completed in 1953, Baker Hall originally served as the first women’s residence hall on the UW-Whitewater campus and was used in that capacity until 1966.
Heide Hall
Home to the Departments of Modern Languages and Literatures. Completed in 1966, Heide Hall was the third classroom building on campus and the first building in the state university system to be used primarily for instruction in the humanities. It features labs for communications and departmental writing.
Salisbury Hall
Home to the Departments of Political Science, Philosophy and Religious Studies, Race and Ethnic Cultures, Sociology and Anthropology, Social Work, and Women’s Studies. Completed in 1958, Salisbury Hall also houses the Office of the Dean of Letters and Sciences. It features the Women’s Center and departmental computer labs.
Upham Hall
Home to the Departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Geography, and Physics. Completed in 1962, Upham Hall was the first building used exclusively for classrooms at UW-Whitewater. The building is currently undergoing extensive renovations and additions to transform it into a first-class science facility. The $40-million project is expected to be completed in time for Fall 2006 classes. The new facility will feature four wired 60-seat classrooms, two lecture halls (seating nearly 300 total), and a second floor dedicated mostly to chemistry labs. Other features of the facility include geography labs, a greenhouse, a small animal museum, a science and technology computer lab, and a biology, chemistry, and physics computer lab.
Winther Hall
Winther Hall is home to the Department of Psychology. Completed in 1970, Winther Hall features the Wisconsin Instructional Technology Research Center, an individual learning system lab, an education technology lab, and two psychology laboratories.
