Spring 2009—History 202: Introduction to Public History Course
Class field trip to Milwaukee including visits to the Milwaukee Public Museum, the 3rd and 5th Wards, and the Lakefront Brewery.
Public History is for students interested in pursuing a career in history beyond teaching. Public Historians work in museums, archives, the fields of historic preservation, film and digital history, historical consulting, oral history, among others. The University of Wisconsin at Whitewater is proud to offer the only undergraduate major in public history in the UW system. A Public History degree from UWW will prepare you to be a competitive applicant for one of the many 2-year masters programs in public history. For more information about a M.A. in public history, check out the programs at UW-Milwaukee, UW-Eau Claire, and Loyola University in Chicago.
If you'd like to learn more about majoring in public history at UWW, email Professor Shrum, Director of the Public History Program, at shrumr@uww.edu.

Public History majors at UWW complete a 3-credit internship at a local public history site. Recent internships have included: the Milwaukee Public Museum, Whitewater University Archives, the Hoard Historical Museum, the Whitewater Historical Society, the Jefferson County Historic Sites Preservation Committee, and the Scottish Mining Museum (through the Wisconsin in Scotland Program). Interns are matched with a site based on their skills and interests in the field.
