Services Provided: The Division of Learning Support: Equity and Advocacy consists of 2 mission teams: Exceptional Education Team, Student Services/Prevention and wellness Team. The division provides training and technical assistance for programs that help students in their career, educational, health, personal and social development. These programs include school nursing, social work, guidance and counseling, alcohol and other drug abuse, alcohol and traffic safety, and psychological services. The division provides statewide coordination of local efforts to implement programs for children with exceptional educational needs and oversees implementation at the district level of federal programs related to children with disabilities. It also administers pupil nondiscrimination laws. The division operates the Wisconsin School for the Visually Handicapped and Educational Services Center for the Visually Impaired at Janesville and the Wisconsin School for the Deaf and Educational Services Center for the Hearing Impaired at Delevan. These residential schools provide academic and vocational education along with individual pupil evaluations and technical assistance to local school districts.
