Services Provided: Community supervision for youth ages 10 to 17 who are adjudicated delinquent or at risk for involvement in the juvenile justice system. Services include: case management, redirective groups, supervision (curfew checks, school checks), 1:1 time with youth, family meetings.

Summary of Expected Responsibilities and Learning Outcomes of Student Interns:

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with redirective groups
  • Case management duties as assigned by social worker
  • Paperwork associated with position

Learning outcomes:

  • Increase knowledge/understanding of African American culture
  • Knowledge of juvenile justice system, including balanced approach
  • Ability to develop relationship with youth and family; use that relationship to redirect youth's behavior and increase parenting skills
  • Be able to conceptualize goals for youth, develop plan/contract, and write reports
  • Group facilitation (content, managing behavior)
