Geology studentes Caitlin Blahnik, Ellen Jilek, Daryl Johnson, Matt Schmus, and Shane Wulf attended and presented research projects at the 2013 North Central Geological Society of America (GSA) Conference in Kalamazoo, Michigan May 1-3.
Three Geography and Geology Students Awarded SURF

Ron Chester, Zach Olson, and Ashley Vedvig have been awarded the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) for 2013. Ron Chester will be working with Dr. Dale Splinter on his project entitled "Streamflow Response to Precipitation Variability in Wisconsin." Zach Olson's project is entitled "Developing Predictive Equations for SOC Content in Subsoil Horizons" and will be working with Dr. Peter Jacobs. Ashley Vedvig will be working with Dr. John Frye on a project titled "Climate Change across North America According to the Koppen and Thorthwaite Classification Schemes."

An experience in undergraduate research is strongly advised for all Geology Emphasis students, especially for those intending to go to graduate school. There are numerous field and laboratory opportunities for the eager student to assist Department faculty members within established research programs.
