Geography and Geology Students Present Research Projects at 2013 Spring Undergraduate Research Day
March 2013
Many undergraduate students from the Department of Geography and Geology presented original research at the annual Spring Undergraduate Research Day. The event was held in the UW-Whitewater University Center on March 13, 2013 and featured student presentations from all colleges across campus. Ron Chester was honored with the Outstanding Presentation in Geography and Geology. The department's participants included:
- Brandon Bockrath (above; Faculty Mentor - Eric Compas): Water Metering and Conservation for the City of Whitewater
- Ron Chester (above; Faculty Mentor - Dale Splinter): Trends in Wisconsin Stream Flow Discharge
- Cerina Colon, Kyle Freeman, and Steve Godding (above; Faculty Mentors - Eric Compas and Peter Jacobs): Mixing Technology with Nature: Ice Age National Scenic Trail Mobile Web Application with Social Media Technologies
- Kristie Hansen (Faculty Mentor - Rex Hanger): Biodiversity of Gastropoda in the Mukwonago River, Wisconsin along a Spatial Gradient
- Ellen Jilek along with Ethan Eichstedt-Anderson (Faculty Mentors - Prajukti Bhattacharyya and Leon Arriola): Numerical Modeling and Experimental Observations of Lava Flow Cooling
- Heather Marsch (above; Faculty Mentor - Rex Hanger): Comparing Field and Laboratory Substrate Preferences of Pleurocerid Gastropoda, Elilmia Livescens and Pleurocera Acuta, Mukwonago River, Wisconsin

Undergraduate Research
An experience in undergraduate research is strongly advised for all Geology Emphasis students, especially for those intending to go to graduate school. There are numerous field and laboratory opportunities for the eager student to assist Department faculty members within established research programs.
