    April 2013

Dr. John Frye and students Jessi Atkinson, Jake Christensen, Andrew Courtney, Alyssa McClain, Stephanie Stoltzman, and Ashley Vedvig attended the 17th Annual Severe Storms and Doppler Radar Conference in Des Moines, Iowa April 4 - 6, 2013. The Central Iowa Chapter of the National Weather Association sponsored the conference. The presentations included research about past severe weather events and research on how to improve the warning process for residents living in communities that are impacted by extreme weather events. Ashley Vedvig and Alyssa McClain also presented their research on the impact of the North Atlantic Oscillation and El Nino Southern Oscillation on severe weather events across the United States. Dr. Frye served as Ashley and Alyssa's mentor and their work was funded through the UW-Whitewater Undergraduate Research Office and through Dr. Frye's UW-Whitewater Faculty Development Grant.
