    The Hokkaido International Foundation (HIF) is an independent, non-profit education organization on the northern island of Hokkaido Japan. Its Japanese Language and Japanese Culture Program is widely recognized as one of the leading intensive Japanese language centers. HIF offers eight-weeks of intensive Japanese language study in small classes and have a home-stay with a Japanese family. Many cultural activities and classes are also available.

    CREDITS: Up to 7 credits of Japanese language and up to 2 credits of Field Study in Asian Studies.

    COST: $4,500 plus airfare to/from Hakodate Japan (about $1,600), plus UW-W Center for Global Education fees and mandatory UW-W System overseas medical insurance ($250). NOTE: Fees are eligible for UW-W financial aid/loans.

    MINIMUM REQUIRMENTS: Overall GPA of 3.0 and one year of Japanese language with grade of A- or higher, approved application by the UW-W Center for Global Education and approval by the Hokkaido International Foundation.

    DEADLINE: December 1, 2011. Students must complete the Hokkaido International Foundation application.
