    Open to all majors. DATES: July 28-August 19, 2012

    UW-Whitewater's exchange agreement with Sophia University, a leading private Japanese university in the center of Tokyo, includes summer session classes in Asian Studies. Sophia University has offered its Asian Studies Summer Session at its main campus for the past 48 years, and over 10,000 students have attended over the years. You take two classes per day 8:30-10:30 am and 10:40 am-12:30 pm to earn 6 credits. In addition to the classes, there are also may field trips (including Kabuki theatre, tea ceremony, Meiji Shrine and Edo-Tokyo Museum). Credits transfer back to UW-W (Exception: Japanese language classes may require placement test for credit).

     Courses Offered will tentatively include the following:

    • Contemporary Japanese Economy
    • Japanese Business and Management
    • Beginning Japanese levels 1 and 2 {not equivalent to regular semester classes}
    • Japanese Theater
    • Survey of Japanese Religions
    • Contemporary Japanese Society
    • Japanese Art
    • Japanese History: Edo and Tokyo
    • Comparative Asian Industrial Systems
    • Japanese Literature and the City
    • Contemporary Japanese Politics
    • Foundations of East Asian Culture

    COST: You pay for UW-Whitewater tuition for up to six undergraduate credits, RT airfare to Tokyo (about $1,500), books/fees (about $250), and lodging ($1300-$2200) and meals ($15-$20 per day), UWW International Education fees (est. $150), required UW-System overseas medical insurance ($35).

    MINIMUM REQUIRMENTS: Sophomore standing, overall GPA of 3.0, approval by UW-W Center for Global.

    DEADLINE: March 15, 2012. Must complete Sophia University summer session application.
