About Us

Through its open interdisciplinary approach, the Race and Ethnic Studies Program fosters intellectual growth, cultural awareness, and personal maturity. We challenge students and teachers alike to think critically about the issues of race and ethnicity. We provide an opportunity for students to become more understanding, appreciative and respectful of themselves, of those who are recognized as similar, and of those who are perceived as different. We encourage responsible independence as well as caring interdependence. We support student efforts to find their place in diverse communities. We believe in this mission. We believe that UW-Whitewater can be a place of fulfillment for all. We recruit and make the effort to retain every single student that attends. We are striving to create a space, a uni[di]versity, where everyone - students, teachers, administration, and staff - can work together to develop to their full potential.
