Types of Special Students

Special No-Credential Students (SPNC, Level 50)
SPNC students are not degree-seeking students, but may be taking one or two classes for their own needs. They are limited to 6 credits of coursework (appeal to admissions for additional credits.)
They may register at the end of the Priority Registration period each semester.

Special Full-Credential Students (SPFC, Level 50))
SPNC students already have a degree from UWW or from another college or university.
They may be seeking a second degree, licensure, or a second major. They are eligible for full-time coursework.

Advising

  1. Any credits taken at UWW will appear on their records; however, credits from other institutions are not evaluated and will not appear on any documents (such as the AR)
  2. Because past course work is not reflected, students will often need permission from departments to take courses with pre-requisite.
  3. Advising Reports for Special Students will not show any degree/major/minor requirements. Their progress will need to be monitored manually by their advisor.
  4. Sample AR's are available at the registrar's site to assist with advising.
  5. Students with declared majors are advised by an advisor in the department of their major.

Curriculum Guidelines

Second Major/Minor
Only students who have earned their first degree at UWW may return for a second major or minor.

Licensure
Students interested in pursuing licensure for their current major should contact the College of Education. If the licensure will be in a new major, they will also need to work with the major advisor.

Second Degree
Students who have earned their first degree at UWW must earn a different degree if they return. Students who have earned their first degree at another institution may earn the same or different degree at UWW (see financial aid implications).

  1. All Gen Ed Requirements are waived (including diversity).
  2. The minor is waived as part of the first degree
  3. The student must complete degree requirements major requirements and unique requirements for the major.
  4. A total of 30 credits must be completed at UWW, with the last 15 being at UWW.
  5. At least 25% of the major must be completed at UWW. Business majors must earn at least 75% of the major at Whitewater.
  6. To earn Honors (summa cum laude, etc.) in the second degree, a student must have completed 48 credits at UWW.

Financial Aid Guidelines
Financial Aid may be available for students if they are admitted to Professional Education Licensure Program. In order to get Financial Aid for teacher licensure, students need to have a program plan created and signed by their Licensure Officer and submit that to the Associate Deans Office in the College of Education.

Students in other colleges should submit a letter from their advisor stating the degree/major to be earned and how many credits will be needed to complete the program of study.
