Grant promotes hands-on biology teaching
Alumni & Friends, Summer/Fall 2004

Eleven UW-Whitewater professors collaborated on a project to energize science teaching in Wisconsin high schools through the use of hands-on experimental biology.

The collaborators, who received $212,000 in grant support, organized two 10-week summer seminars breaking participants into small research teams. The teams consist of a faculty mentor, an undergraduate student, one high school teacher and a high school student, with the teacher and student partnering on the development and execution of a research project.

The scientific research culminates in a “Summer Research Day” where each team will present their results.
