General Requirements for Awarding Credit for the Internship Experiences
- Student must be a junior or senior at UW-Whitewater during the internship.
- Student can be awarded 2-6 units; each unit takes approximately 80 hours of work. Student must complete 480 hours of work for six units. The requirements are the same for paid and unpaid internships, although most internships are paid.
- The work required of an intern should be entry level accounting work similar to what a graduate would encounter in their first full-time accounting job. Examples include general ledger accounting, adjusting entries, assisting in the preparation of financial statements, internal auditing of accounting functions, income tax preparation, independent auditing, cost accounting and budgeting.
- Strictly clerical and data entry positions are not considered for credit.
- The student must complete at least one paper about the internship. Specifics regarding the paper(s) depend upon the type of internship. In addition, employers must fill out an evaluation on the individual's performance and confirm the duration of the internship and type of work performed.
- All internships outside of the formal spring internship program must be evaluated and approved by the Accounting Internship Director. Please direct all inquires to:
